We recently had the pleasure of carrying out the restoration of the GWR Castle Cary ticket office and its associated facilities. This project focused on celebrating and enhancing the building’s early 20th-century heritage, carefully reversing previous clinical alterations to reintroduce warmth, character, and authenticity to the space for both the public and GWR employees.
Preserving the station’s historical features was a key priority throughout the works, ensuring that its original charm and architectural integrity were retained while improving functionality and accessibility. Every detail was approached with care to create a welcoming and cohesive environment that reflects the building’s rich history.
The scope of works included plastering of the existing walls, along with the installation of new picture rails, coving, and decorative panelling throughout. We also fitted new lighting and upgraded fixtures to complement the restored aesthetic. Comprehensive painting works were carried out across walls, woodwork, and windows to refresh and unify the space.
In addition, we installed a new accessible ramp to improve ease of access for all visitors, alongside the renewal of electrical accessories and the installation of updated lighting systems, ensuring the space meets modern standards while maintaining its traditional appearance.
